The **[Uttar Pradesh](https://bliptext.com/articles/uttar-pradesh) Legislative Assembly**, also known as **[Uttar Pradesh](https://bliptext.com/articles/uttar-pradesh) Vidhan Sabha**, is the [lower house](https://bliptext.com/articles/lower-house) of [bicameral](https://bliptext.com/articles/bicameralism) legislature of the Indian state [Uttar Pradesh](https://bliptext.com/articles/uttar-pradesh).
There are 403 seats in the house.
[Members of the Assembly](https://bliptext.com/articles/member-of-the-legislative-assembly-india) are elected by an adult [universal suffrage](https://bliptext.com/articles/universal-suffrage) and a [first-past-the-post](https://bliptext.com/articles/first-past-the-post) system to represent their respective [constituencies](https://bliptext.com/articles/list-of-constituencies-of-the-uttar-pradesh-legislative-assembly), and they hold their seats for five years or until the body is dissolved by the [Governor](https://bliptext.com/articles/list-of-governors-of-uttar-pradesh) on the advice of the [council of ministers](https://bliptext.com/articles/uttar-pradesh-council-of-ministers).
The house meets in the Vidhan Sabha Chambers of the [Vidhan Bhavan](https://bliptext.com/articles/vidhan-bhavan-lucknow), Lucknow is the capital.
