Taybad is a city in the Central District of Taybad County, Razavi Khorasan province, Iran, serving as capital of both the county and the district.

Religion

While most Iranians, and especially most Iranian Persians, are predominantly Shia, a majority of the population of Taybad are Persian Sunnis.

Population

At the time of the 2006 National Census, the city's population was 46,228 in 10,230 households. The 2011 census counted 52,280 people in 12,954 households. The 2016 census measured the population of the city as 56,562 people in 14,996 households.

Overview

Taybad is near the border with Afghanistan, and has an official crossing point to Islam Qala in Afghanistan. Melons and watermelons are the souvenirs of Taybad. Taybad has a suitable climate for cultivating these fruits compared to other parts of Iran.
