Non (comics)

Non is a supervillain appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. He first appeared in the 1978 film Superman, portrayed by Jack O'Halloran, and first appeared in comics in Action Comics #845 (January 2007). An accomplice of General Zod and an adversary of the superhero Superman, he is typically depicted as having been imprisoned in the Phantom Zone along with Zod and Ursa, among whom he is portrayed as the strong and silent muscle. In television, the character was portrayed by Chris Vance in the Arrowverse series Supergirl.

Character biography

Films

Non is a mute Kryptonian criminal and ally of General Zod and Ursa who was imprisoned alongside them in the Phantom Zone following a failed coup against Krypton's government. In Superman II, after Superman throws a hydrogen bomb into Earth's orbit, he unknowingly creates a rift that enables the three to escape. They battle Superman before he eventually depowers them with red sunlight and imprisons them in the Fortress of Solitude.

Comics

Non made his comic debut in Action Comics, written by Geoff Johns and Superman director Richard Donner. This version is a former member of Krypton's Science Council and friend of Jor-El who was captured and lobotomized after leading a separatist movement. However, he maintains a degree of his original personality and is friends with Ursa and Zod's son Lor-Zod.

Powers and abilities

Non possesses the average abilities of a Kryptonian, including superhuman strength, speed, flight, super-vision, and super-hearing. However, he is vulnerable to Kryptonite and red sun radiation, and can be exploited due to his low intelligence.
