Storylines

Liz came to Salem in 1980. She is the daughter of Kellam Chandler, the former governor of the state in which Salem is situated. She is also a singer, and was the headlining cabaret act at Salem's nightclub Doug's Place owned by Doug Williams and Neil Curtis. One of the memorable songs performed by Liz was "Friends and Lovers", which was recorded as a duet by Loring with singer Carl Anderson and became a hit single on the US pop chart. Despite being in love with Neil, she was still married to Tony DiMera. She was pregnant at the time with Neil's child though Tony thought it was his. He agreed to divorce Liz if he kept the child. However, Stefano got involved and held her hostage with Marlena Evans in order to escape a conviction. They were rescued as Liz goes into labor, giving birth to Noelle. Tony eventually divorced her, but she is angered to learn Neil married Marie Horton. One night after she broke into his apartment to confront Neil, Liz shoots Marie believing she was another intruder. Marie survived but Liz would be sentenced to prison though she would be released on parole and married Neil. Liz would become entangled with storylines involving a plane crash on an island belonging to Stefano DiMera, Neil's gambling addiction, and getting shot in the throat when her brother's drug/porn ring was busted. Her voice later returned, she and Neil continued to suffer problems with their marriage over time, however, and they divorced. Liz left Salem afterwards in 1986. In December 2024, Liz returned to Salem for Doug's funeral where she talked with Marlena and ran into Marie Horton again. Their animosity still remained over Neil but Maggie convinced them to call a truce for Doug's sake. She sang "Always" and led the congregation throughout the piece while they all joined in.
