History

The station opened on 30 March 1924 as the terminus of the then Kōchi Line (later renamed the Dosan Line) was constructed eastwards from Susaki. On 15 November 1924 it became a through-station when the line was extended to Kōchi. At this time the station was operated by Japanese Government Railways, later becoming Japanese National Railways (JNR). With the privatization of JNR on 1 April 1987, control of the station passed to JR Shikoku.
