**Dead Sea Highway**, is a north–south highway in [Jordan](https://bliptext.com/articles/jordan).\nIt starts in [Aqaba](https://bliptext.com/articles/aqaba) passing through [Wadi Araba](https://bliptext.com/articles/wadi-araba), and adjacent to the [Dead Sea](https://bliptext.com/articles/dead-sea) and the [Jordan Valley](https://bliptext.com/articles/jordan-valley-middle-east) to the western suburbs of the city of [Irbid](https://bliptext.com/articles/irbid) in Jordan's northern tip.\n\n# Development\nThe first part of the highway was conceived in 1974 as the [Safi-Aqaba Highway](https://bliptext.com/articles/safi-aqaba-highway).\nAfter the highway had reached Safi (in 1977), further plans were developed for a Dead Sea Highway to the north.\nFor a long time however, there was an incomplete section between Mazra'a to Zara.\nLater, Highway 65 became included in the Jordanian 25-year plan to build an extensive road network that travels around the country.\nIt involves building [beltways](https://bliptext.com/articles/beltway) around major cities such as
