Bird-Brain is a character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics.

Publication history

Bird-Brain first appeared in The New Mutants #55 (September 1987), and was first fully seen in The New Mutants #56 (October 1987). The character was created by Louise Simonson and June Brigman.

Fictional character biography

Bird-Brain is one of the "Ani-Mates", a group of humanoid animals who the Ani-Mator created and experimented on. However, he escapes and befriends the New Mutants. They attempt to acclimate him into human society, which fails due to his insatiable hunger. Additionally, he possesses a simplistic language that only Cypher can understand. Bird-Brain develops close relationships with Cypher and Wolfsbane, viewing the latter as a kindred spirit. He and the New Mutants later return to the Ani-Mator's island to free the Ani-Mates, during which he decides to live there.
