A. Shane Massey

Anthony Shane Massey (born June 28, 1975) is an American politician. Since 2007, he has represented the 25th District (Aiken, Edgefield, Lexington, McCormick, and Saluda Counties) in the South Carolina Senate. He is a member of the Republican party. Since 2016, Massey has been the Majority Leader of the South Carolina Senate.

Political career

S.C. Senate

Massey is a Republican member of the South Carolina Senate, representing the 25th District since 2007. Massey became the Republican Majority Leader for the Senate on April 6, 2016. He currently chairs the Senate Rules committee. In 2024, Massey was among the state legislators appointed to serve on the Robert Smalls Monument Commission. During the 2020 election, which took place during the COVID-19 pandemic, Massey voted to prevent ballot drop boxes from being used during the election in South Carolina.

U.S. House of Representatives

On March 20, 2009, Massey announced that he would be a Republican candidate for the US House of Representatives South Carolina's 3rd congressional district, but quickly declined, citing a desire to keep his family in South Carolina.

Endorsements

In June 2023, Massey endorsed Tim Scott in the 2024 United States presidential election.

Personal life

Massey was named a 2014 Aspen Institute Rodel Fellow. He is a deacon and Sunday School teacher at the Providence Baptist Church.
