2001 Cannes Film Festival

The 54th Cannes Film Festival took place from 9 to 20 May 2001. Norwegian actress and director Liv Ullmann was named Jury President for the main competition. Italian filmmaker Nanni Moretti won the Palme d'Or for the drama film The Son's Room. The festival opened with Moulin Rouge! by Baz Luhrmann, and closed with Savage Souls by Raúl Ruiz.
