1948 Texas Longhorns football team
The 1948 Texas Longhorns football team was an American football team that represented the University of Texas (now known as the University of Texas at Austin) as a member of the Southwest Conference (SWC) during the 1948 college football season. In their second year under head coach Blair Cherry, the Longhorns compiled an overall record of 7–3–1, with a mark of 4–1–1 in conference play, and finished second in the SWC. Texas concluded their season with a victory over Georgia in the Orange Bowl. After the season, Tom Landry signed with the New York Yanks of the All-America Football Conference. Texas was ranked at No. 20 in the final Litkenhous Difference by Score System ratings for 1948.
